What You Need to Know

Semaglutide is an injectable prescription medication for adults with obesity or overweight (excess weight) who also have weight-related medical problems.

It works by mimicking a hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) that targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake.

What To Expect During Your Visit?

  • Develop Your Plan: Your provider will order labs and develop a weight loss plan based on your specific goals, answering any questions you may have.
  • Medication Review: Our nurse practitioner weight loss specialist will go through the injection instructions in detail and also guide you in how to inject properly at home (once-weekly). We'll answer any questions you may have about taking the medication and place your initial order!
  • Lose Weight & Track Progress: We'll meet once a month (in person or via tele-health) to review your progress, answer any questions you may have, and order your next month's supply of medication.

How do I get my medications?

We have partnered with a compounding pharmacy to provide all our clients with their semaglutide medication. The pharmacy will ship your medication to you. Shipping times vary throughout the year, it typically takes 2 business days to receive your medication.

My medication still hasn’t been delivered; How do I check the status?

Please contact the pharmacy for this information. Once we send the prescription to them, we do not have any way of viewing the status of your medication.

Medication Storage

Your medication should be stored in the refrigerator when not in use. If you happen to be traveling, it does NOT need to be packed on ice. Just place the medication in the refrigerator when you arrive at your destination.

How frequently do I take my medication?

It is a once-weekly injection. You may take it in the morning, afternoon, or evening—whichever time works best with your schedule.

What if I miss a dose?

Don’t panic! The medication has a 4-day window of time in which to take your dose and stay on track with your dosing regimen. If you are 5 days past your dosing date, then the recommendation is to skip that current week and resume the next week on your regular dosing day.

How do I do the injections?

Our NP weight loss specialist will go through the injection instructions in detail and also guide you in how to inject properly.

Are there any side effects?

Semaglutide is an FDA-approved medication and is clinically-tested, stimulant-free, and non-habit forming. In a recent clinical trial, less than 5% of people discontinued GLP-1 medications because of side effects. Nausea is the most common, and this has been shown to typically resolve over the first weeks of being on the medication.
